Star Trek RPG: Confessions Of A Game Lover
I am a gamer, and more importantly, I am a role player. The very best occasions I have gaming are when I can slip into the persona of someone else. To become a hero. Role playing games are made to complete just that, to take us away from our normal situation and let us turn out to be something else.
And for many of that play these games, that is what we are searching for.
To me the very best component of any great game is the story, the plot. Why should I care concerning the heroes that I manage? What makes them more than just sprites or models on the screen?
That my buddies, is the storyline that drives us, that which makes us discover what occurs next. And whilst each Star Trek RPG is various, they all share the exact same thing. They all are fixed in stone, regardless of how many occasions you play them, each game only has 1 story that it tells and when it is told, it is over. The character’s are developed precisely as someone else has decided. The plot moves forward when they decide it is time and there's frequently small which you can do to change that.
And in online gaming, its even worse. A hand full of developers set the story for millions of players. And in each 1 I would spend some time listening to the story and attempting to make it my personal. And following some time I would move on, when the game forced me to turn out to be the character that it wanted.
Then I stumbled across UFOP:Starbase 118, the Star Trek Game. A various type of gaming expertise. Right here the game is played by email, and everybody, from the newest Ensign towards the founding Admiral, is a component of the community. Right here the story and also the game are moved forward by everybody, not by the developers. You're in charge of the character and who you want to become.
You can play the story that someone else wrote for you personally...
I will be writing mine.
